If you want the kind of Christmas tree that immediately makes the whole living room feel like Christmas, the Cynthia is a beautiful place to start. 2. Balsam Hill BH Fraser Fir
Now we’re getting into serious realism. The Balsam Hill BH Fraser Fir is designed to capture the natural shape, texture and variation of a real Fraser fir, and you can see the difference in the branches. Instead of looking perfectly molded and artificial, the foliage has depth and variation that helps give the tree that wonderful did you cut that down yourself? appearance.
The warm clear lights are hand-strung throughout the tree, rather than simply sitting along the outer edges of the branches. That creates more depth when the tree is illuminated and gives you a softer, more natural glow. Even undecorated, the structure of this tree is beautiful enough to stand on its own.

This is the tree that made me think, Okay, somebody went out into the woods and brought that home. The National Tree Company Norwegian Spruce isn’t overly symmetrical or suspiciously perfect, and that’s precisely what makes it beautiful. The branches fall more naturally, the silhouette is relaxed, and it has the personality of the tree you would have picked yourself at a Christmas tree lot.
It’s also completely unlit, and for the right decorator that’s an advantage, not a drawback. You’re not married to somebody else’s lighting choices for the life of the tree. Do warm white lights this year, vintage multicolor next year, or bring out those glorious old-school C7 bulbs and make your living room look like Christmas circa 1965. You can completely reinvent this tree simply by changing the lights and ornaments.
I particularly love this one for people who genuinely enjoy decorating the tree rather than simply assembling one. It gives you a blank canvas every Christmas. The realistic texture and naturally imperfect shape provide the foundation, and then you get to decide what personality it has that year. This was one of my personal favorites in the video, and it still is.

Here’s another one for my fellow Christmas-tree control enthusiasts. The National Tree Company Fraser Grande has that full, layered, natural appearance of a tree you might bring home from a tree farm, but because it’s unlit, you get to create the entire finished look yourself.

The wonderful thing about artificial Christmas trees today is that there really isn’t one “best” tree for everybody. Some of us want the most realistic tree we can possibly find.
